#Powerseries: How to become a Woman of Power (Part 1)

It’s the second edition of our #powerseries and already we’ve seen that its catching some buzz! For this edition we’ve decided to take a deeper look into power by examining the ways we can become powerful. This is important because as we discussed last week, for a long time we’ve seen power as command and control instead of an opportunity to influence positive change. By extension it means be believe becoming powerful involves positioning. We see only top CEO’s and presidents as powerful and therefore equate our own rise to power as a rise in our respective position.

Today’s videos, provide a different take on the quest for power. They show that become powerful, we must first be a leader. Leadership here isn’t seen as a top down, command and control position rather these women describe leadership as having integrity, gaining respect, taking responsibility for bad decisions and sharing the collective good from the good decisions. Leadership here is seen as perseverance, the need to always improve, building something that matters and seeing obstacles as opportunities. My favorite quote from this video places leadership in a whole new light ‘I am everybody’s equal and no one’s superior’!

How to become a Powerful Woman: Be a Leader

Becoming a powerful woman also means being yourself! It requires understanding who you are, your values and bringing the whole of you into the business. It means being authentic. Dress how you feel comfortable. don’t conform to stereotypes of how you believe powerful women should dress and talk. Dress and talk like you! Off course it follows that in order to be yourself you must first know who you are and what you stand for.

How to become a Powerful Woman: Be Yourself

We’ll bring the concluding part of how to be a powerful woman tomorrow but in the meantime tell us your own experiences of becoming powerful.
