Women. Different. Unique. Diverse. Varied. Complex. Multifaceted. Versatile. Each woman is all of these things. We are the sum total of the various elements that make us unique, diverse and inherently complex. We are created to live outside the box, or in, if we choose. And that is the clincher. Choice. We must be allowed to choose who we want to be and what we want to do. And somehow it is in this freedom, this freedom that many have marched and died for, that we find ourselves and make the decisions that both empower and liberate us to live.
This video by Vogue India represents that and more. A collaboration between director Homi Adajania and Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone, and produced by JSW and Sangita Jindal, ‘My Choice’ is one more short film made dedicated to #VogueEmpower, Vogue India’s social awareness initiative. Based on a piece written by Kersi Khambatta, the video has been shot by Tassaduq Hussain.
The video features images of 99 women from various works of life all demonstrating the infinite possibilities and differences each woman can represent.
My favourite lines in this video are numerous….but here are a few
My Body, my choice. To be a size 0 or a size 15. ….
To use cotton and silk to wrap my soul is to believe you can halt the expansion of the universe or capture sunlight in the palm of your hand
Your mind is caged let it free, my body is not let it be
You are my choice, I am not your privilege.
My choices are like my finger prints, they make me unique
To come home when I want. Don’t be angry when I come home at 4am and don’t be fooled when I come home at 6pm. My choice
The ring on my finger, adding your surname to mine, they are ornaments. They can be replaced. My love for you cannot. So treasure it.
I am the universe. Infinite in every direction. This is my choice
