Why Women Compete

Why Women Compete

So anyone who knows me, knows I love me some Oprah. Super Soul Sunday, Oprah Master Class and Life class are just the thing the doctor ordered to lift the soul and transform the mind. At exactly 12:45 am this morning I watched these videos and literally had a halleluiah moment all by myself. Iyanla Vanzant says deep truths that cut through the BS and aim straight for the soul. So of course you know I had to share it with you all.

Iyanla tells us in these videos the real reason we are mean to each other! Putting it simply, it’s because we don’t honour who we are. Honestly that line slays me every time! She says truly successful people want other people to be empowered and are willing to help them achieve success first (something that we’ve been discussing in our #powerseries). But instead we are busy competing and tearing each other down because we need to be validated by others. We want people to acknowledge us and make us feel good about ourselves and when they don’t, we get mean. We find it easier to point at the not so good in other women because we are afraid to look at ourselves. So, if we make another women look bad, i look better. Like she says “it’s easy to be the queen amongst paupers, but being a queen amongst other queens will require effort”.

We also compete because we are afraid. We are afraid we are not enough. So we are constantly trying to prove our worth by tearing other women down instead of focusing inwards. She says ‘comparison is an act of violence against the self because when I say who I am is less than who you are, then i set up my ego to do something that God already did’.
